In July, 2006, Omar Minaya acquired 24-year-old-LHP Oliver Perez as a throw-in when he sent Xavier Nady to Pittsburgh for Roberto Hernandez. Since then, Ollie has thrived in Queens, and now that this stud is an unrestricted free-agent, it’s time to lock him up long-term. If that means paying him $13-million-a-year over four years with a club-option for a fifth year, then do it; the Mets have been stealing his services since 2006 — it’s time to pay the man.

Scott Boras recently released his “book” on Ollie, and Howard Megdal at the NY Observer wrote a great article detailing why the Mets need to lock this guy up. However, Metsblog.com’s Matt Cerrone says that if Perez leaves New York, “nobody will lose any sleep over it.”
